Confucius' Birthday and Teacher's Day at CDR
Sunday, September 28, 2008
With the help of many students from CDR's Summer Camp and their parents and volunteers, we held
a luncheon meeting with several teacher guests on this birthday of Confucius, to express our appreciation of teachers
who dedicate themselves to the work of education.
Dr. Bostick, who is the principal of the Boys' School at the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas, and his wife came to
join us. Being hospitable as always, they cooked the delicious dishes. In addition to the tasty and healthy meal,
Harrison, 13, and his cousin Holly, 10, two students from the Summer Camp, played a classical Chinese instrument
called zither to welcome the guests. Although this is a gathering of a small number of educators, it is a significant
step towards the goal of
CDR schools.
Gwei Fa Si and Shi Fa Si shared with us their experiences in education, and each of the rest of us also had something
to say on this important and increasingly pressing topic. Even Mr. Yu, a quiet volunteer who's supervising the
building and renovation of the new school building, let us hear a piece of what's in his mind. His 30-second talk
was considered by Shi Fa Si to be the longest speech she had heard from him in all these years!
Time went by quickly. Thanks to the volunteers and helpers for their hard work, we had a very fulfilling and pleasant
lunch. After the meal we posed for a group photo and promised to have another gathering next year.
